Day 1: Nairobi – Moshi | Journey to the Gateway of Kilimanjaro

Your adventure begins with an early morning shuttle transfer from Nairobi to Moshi, Tanzania. Travel through the scenic countryside while enjoying magnificent views of Mount Kilimanjaro as you approach the mountain town.

Upon arrival in Moshi, meet your mountain guide for a comprehensive climb briefing and equipment inspection. Any missing hiking gear can be hired before the climb.

Spend the evening relaxing and preparing for the exciting adventure ahead.

Day 2: Moshi – Marangu Gate (1,870m) – Mandara Hut (2,720m)

After breakfast, drive to Marangu Gate, where registration formalities are completed before entering Kilimanjaro National Park.

Your trek begins through dense tropical rainforest filled with towering trees, colorful birds, blue monkeys and colobus monkeys. The gentle ascent makes for an enjoyable first day as you gradually gain altitude.

After approximately 4–5 hours of hiking, arrive at Mandara Hut, nestled within the forest.

If energy allows, enjoy a short walk to the beautiful Maundi Crater, offering excellent views across northern Tanzania and Kenya.

Day 3: Mandara Hut – Horombo Hut (3,720m)

After breakfast, leave the rainforest behind as the trail opens into spectacular heath and moorland landscapes.

The scenery changes dramatically, offering magnificent views of both Kibo and Mawenzi Peaks. Giant groundsels and unique alpine vegetation dominate the landscape while the fresh mountain air reminds you that you are steadily approaching the summit.

Arrive at Horombo Hut in the afternoon where you can relax while enjoying panoramic mountain views.

Day 4: Acclimatization Day at Horombo Hut (3,720m)

Today is dedicated to acclimatization, an essential part of maximizing your chances of successfully reaching the summit.

Take a scenic hike toward Zebra Rocks (4,020m) before returning to Horombo Hut for lunch. The gradual ascent and descent allow your body to adjust naturally to the increasing altitude.

Spend the remainder of the afternoon relaxing while your guides continue monitoring your health and preparing you for the higher elevations ahead.

Day 5: Horombo Hut – Kibo Hut (4,700m)

Today’s trail crosses the dramatic alpine desert known as the Saddle, a vast plateau stretching between Mawenzi and Kibo Peaks.

The landscape becomes rugged and barren, creating an unforgettable lunar-like environment unlike anywhere else in Africa.

Arrive at Kibo Hut in the afternoon where you’ll enjoy an early dinner before resting in preparation for the summit attempt beginning just before midnight.

Walking Time: 5–6 Hours

Distance: 10 km

Altitude: 3,720m – 4,700m

Accommodation: Kibo Hut

Meals: Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner

Day 6: Kibo Hut – Gilman’s Point – Uhuru Peak (5,895m) – Horombo Hut

Just after midnight, begin the most exciting and challenging stage of your adventure.

Slowly ascend under a sky filled with countless stars toward Gilman’s Point (5,685m) before continuing along the crater rim to the legendary Uhuru Peak (5,895m) — the highest point in Africa.

As the sun rises over the glaciers, celebrate your incredible achievement with unforgettable photographs from the Roof of Africa.

After taking in the breathtaking views, begin your descent back to Kibo Hut for a well-deserved rest and brunch before continuing down to Horombo Hut for overnight.

This is undoubtedly the most rewarding day of the expedition.

Day 7: Horombo Hut – Marangu Gate – Moshi – Nairobi

Following breakfast, descend through beautiful rainforest back to Marangu Gate, where successful climbers receive their official Kilimanjaro Summit Certificates.

After celebrating your remarkable achievement, transfer back to Moshi before boarding the return shuttle to Nairobi, bringing your unforgettable Kilimanjaro adventure with Africa Safaris Adventure to a memorable close.
